HIGH PERFORMANCE 

Taekwondo High Performance Program

The High Performance Program develops athletes capable of successfully competing at local, provincial, national and international competitions. The program is based on modern sports science principles and traditional training techniques.  Along with the sport-specific training, the team must follow a strength and conditioning program that is tailored for each athlete. An individual must display exceptional dedication, skill, physical fitness and team spirit over an extended time period.  At Master Myung’s Taekwondo Academy, we offer two high performance programs.

Taekwondo High Performance Poomsae (Patterns)

Poomsae is a fundamental training method of Taekwondo. Poomsae provides a method of solo practice to train blocks, attacks, and counter attacks against imaginary opponent/s (of equal size and height). Poomsae was designed for both offensive and defensive training. In practice, the martial artist can step, change direction, change stance, shift their weight, and block and attack in logical patterns for combat and defense.

In the distant past, poomsae was primarily used for training combat skills, as it provided a safe and effective rehersal of taekwondo skills needed in battle, along with necessary mental and physical training. In later years poomsae became important for maintaining health and mental and physical fitness. Poomsae can be practiced throughout one’s entire lifetime, and the art of poomsae has long been valued along with the training it provides in technique and skill.

Taekwondo High Performance Sparring (Kyorugi)

This class focuses on footwork, kicks, hand target drills, heavy bag workouts, coaching, combinations, strategy, professional training, opponent analysis, conditioning, weight control, competition tips, official Olympic rules, scientific analysis of scoring.
